Applying Article of Faith 13 to Our Social Media Presence
To me, Article of Faith 13 is like my introduction letter to
people, whether they are members of the Church or not. It shows the values I
believe in, like being honest, kind, and doing good things. I grew up in
Ecuador, and between 2010 and 2014, social media started to get really popular.
I wasn’t on social media much because I was serving a mission from 2011 to
2013. When I came back, the world felt different. Everything was digital, and
everyone was posting and sharing things online.
When I logged back into my Facebook account, I noticed
people were sharing all kinds of things, some good and some bad. It seemed like
some people didn’t realize that what they were sharing was public and anyone
could see it. My family and I had a conversation about it. We talked about how
important it is to set a good example and how whatever we post should be
something positive that helps others.
For us, Article of Faith 13 became a guide for how to use
social media. Just like in our everyday lives, we wanted to make sure that what
we shared online reflected our values. Whether it was a Facebook post, a video,
or a comment, we tried to make sure it was something uplifting and good.
Article of Faith 13 says to look for things that are virtuous, lovely, and
praiseworthy. That’s a great way to decide what to share online.
These days, social media is a big part of our lives, and how
we use it shows a lot about who we are. We have a responsibility to be careful
with what we post. For me, that means being honest, sharing kindness, and
staying away from negativity. It also means finding things that inspire others
and sharing them. It’s not always easy, but when we remember that social media
is part of our daily life, it makes sense to follow the same values online as
we do in person.
Article of Faith 13 is a great reminder for me in a world
where social media can be full of bad things. It helps me think about how my
posts affect others and what kind of example I’m setting. I want to make sure
that what I share helps people feel better and encourages them to do good
things. By using these values as a guide, I hope that my social media presence
spreads positivity and makes a difference.
